Men and Women
Endurance sports. All of my endurance athletes achieve a PR while working with me
Fighters, rowers, olympic lifters and other weight-class athletes
Rugby, football, soccer, hockey, lacrosse. Be big, lean, tough, agile, and fast
Skinny guys aka “hard gainers”: get on a program that works to gain mass
First responders testing
Disordered eating and body dysmorphia. I have helped some athletes recover from abusive sport programs and gain a healthy relationship with food and their bodies
Nutrition For Athletes
I’ve helped recreational, collegiate, and professional athletes
Lacrosse
Ryan Smith was concerned about being in great shape but having “dead legs” at the start and end of games. His hunch was correct. His sports nutrition was upside down. In addition to day to day nutrition modifications, I corrected some hydration, carb, and electrolyte protocols and his game (and practice) performance improved significantly. Ultra-Endurance
Colin decided to be an Ultra runner. I helped him get his body fat percentage down from about 19% to 14%. Then I customized his hydration/carbs/electrolytes for each race (one in a desert, one in a temperate climate, and one in Antarctica). The calculations were based on sweat rate, sodium losses, calories required, and more. Every race under my coaching he improved his finishing place.
Triathlon
Robin came to me a decent eater but had to improve her day-to-day eating if she was to handle the vigorous training an Ironman. I gave her a few simple rules and she followed that, getting fitter and stronger each week leading up to the Triathlon.
I customized her race week, race day, and hydration/carbohydrate/electrolyte formulation.
She had a fall on the bike but despite that, carried on, and passed over 100 people on the run portion.
The end of an endurance race is where the nutrition plan is so valuable.
Martial Arts
Victor was making a run at professional fighting.
He was able to maintain his weight but his energy and recovery were lagging.
I discovered that he was training for over 90 minutes at a time, sometimes 2.5 hours. And during this time he was only drinking water.
I prescribed a customized during-training water and carbohydrate mix. It ended up adding about 400 calories to his day, and he didn’t gain an ounce of weight. What did change however was his training output increased dramatically. So did his recovery.
I also helped Victor and many other fighters optimize their weight cuts and weight class strategies.
Olympic Lifting
Lo is a recreational Olympic lifter, artist, and IT professional with some wins at the regional and state level in the USA.
As with most of my athlete clients, I helped her improve her day to day nutrition to improve recovery and optimize body composition (lose a bit of fat and gain a bit of muscle in this case). I also helped her with weight classes, and what to eat on competition day.
We worked completely virtually.
Olympic Lifting
Deirdre is a masters champion and holds multiple records in the sport. We worked together for about five years.
When I first met her she was not eating enough protein or carbs. My nutrition plan helped her recover from her training, build muscle, and at the same time, reduce body fat. Never did she have to weigh her food or be on a rigid meal plan. We instead used portions and mindful eating/appetite awareness.
I also helped her manage the weight classes, and what to eat on competition day.
I also helped her with some competition nerves with mastery rehearsal training.
Football
In the short time I was Ross’s nutrition coach I helped him eat enough to withstand his 2-3 x per day training schedule. He had a hard time eating enough and staying organized, so I made it more simple, portable, and easy to repeat. The result was he was able to train harder and make performance gains.
His goal was also to gain size and muscle. In six weeks my plan resulted in Ross gaining 4.4 lbs of muscle and only 0.6 lbs of fat.
Later he was drafted into the CFL and left pro football to pursue academics.
Seminars
For cost-effectiveness a sports nutrition seminar can have a tremendous impact on performance. Pictured here working with the York U Lions rugby squad.
Proud to say that after my talk with the U-18 Ontario Field Hockey team in 2022 they won nationals for the first time in several years. I can’t take all the credit but I did cure what was a dehydration epidemic on the team, partly due to their poor training facilities and safety.
